The Value Of Trees: Beauty That Blooms, Joy That Stays Forever
Trees are the Ultimate Superheroes: Keepers of the planet
A Greeting – The Old Giants of our Mother Earth
Perhaps the most venerable and potent creations on our living planet are its trees. These are mute witnesses of all that unfolds about them and stand through the ages in quiet sentinel over the march of time; they occupy both individual gardens as well as vast woods, enriching the planet with vitality and stability.
However, a tree must be more than merely the woody torso and branches to which green is attached. It is in itself a whole, viable system, offering shade and nutrition, and also protection from a number of species from within its arboreal dominion. They stand among the supreme helpers of the Earth.
The Value Of Trees
By drinking in carbon dioxide while yielding oxygen they preserve the quality of our atmospheric envelope – a natural purifying device which helps remove any detrimental pollutants from the air.
Trees secure soil with their roots and thereby check soil erosion. During great downpours, their ability to retard flow also help maintain soil integrity.
From trees are derived a host of important resources – including fruits, seeds, medicines, and raw materials, many of which feature in our day to day lives. Indeed, various groups rely on trees for the essentials of their existence.
Trees As Nature's Apartments
A lone tree is capable of hosting numberless beings. Birds nestle in its canopy, on its leaves live countless insects, and various forms of animals find haven in their shade. A woodland, thick with many trees, becomes a vital environment, giving refuge to thousands of other organisms. Therefore to safeguard the trees means, indirectly, safeguarding numerous forms of life.
The Visual Aesthetics Of Trees
It is impossible to overestimate the positive contribution that trees make to our landscapes. Lined on a highway, they increase aesthetic appeal and reduce the perceived temperature along its way; and our parks and other such areas are tranquil owing to the sheer quantity of verdure available. Trees are, at least in our perception, nature’s Art, no substitute for machines.
The Bottom Line
We are dealing here with the guardians of our Earth, safeguarding environmental integrity, nourishing life forms, and rendering the Earth that much better a place to exist in. The single most effective gift we can bequeath to posterity is to plant and conserve trees.
